BIOGRAPHY

Jennyanykind formed in North Carolina in 1991, built around identical twins Michael and Mark Holland (guitar/vocals and drums) alongside bassist Tom Royal. Their early alt-rock sound crystallized on 1995's Mythic, likened to 'Syd Barrett composing Astronomy Domine in the mid-90s,' and led to a deal with Elektra Records for the album Revelator before the band returned to Chapel Hill. In 2000 the Hollands self-produced I Need You, a lo-fi, conceptual record made entirely on their own. Working from an abandoned schoolhouse outside Chapel Hill with an upright piano they called 'Big John,' the group later drew praise from PopMatters for 2003's Peas and Collards, calling them 'the best little band rambling under the radar between North Carolina and Florida.'

WHY THEY'RE COOL

Jennyanykind fused Southern rock roots with psychedelic experimentation, echoing early Flaming Lips, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, and Quicksilver Messenger Service. Their evolution from Elektra-backed alt-rock to fully self-made, lo-fi records like I Need You showed a rare independent streak, and PopMatters praised 2003's Peas and Collards for capturing 'contemporary Southern culture with a fusion of old and new sounds.'
