BIOGRAPHY
Styrofoam Winos formed in Nashville when Lou Turner, Trevor Nikrant, and Joe Kenkel, three multi-instrumentalists and songwriters, met while working at J&J's Market and Cafe, a Midtown institution. After finishing studies at Belmont University, the trio worked the cafe by day and jammed together by night, eventually building a band where members switch instruments and lead vocals from song to song.
The group released a self-titled debut in 2021, a Michael Hurley covers tape in 2022, and a follow-up called Real Time in 2024, appearing that year on MJ Lenderman's And the Wind (Live and Loose!). Their album Any River arrived in 2026 on Dear Life Records. They have toured alongside artists like Ryan Davis and MJ Lenderman, building a reputation for lo-fi, road-worn alt-country.

Styrofoam Winos have been called the antidote to supergroups, a description that fits their communal, instrument-swapping approach to songwriting. Aquarium Drunkard praised their lo-fi ease across 'road-weary choogles' and 'swampy, faded funkers,' while Nashville Scene placed each member's writing in the tradition of John Prine and Vic Chesnutt, weaving vivid, organic strings of words. That combination of shared authorship, literate storytelling, and unpolished charm has earned them real critical attention and a place on bills with acts like MJ Lenderman.
