BIOGRAPHY
Kikagaku Moyo (Japanese for "geometric patterns") formed in the summer of 2012 in Tokyo, founded by drummer/vocalist Go Kurosawa and guitarist/vocalist Tomo Katsurada. The pair began jamming near Takadanobaba train station, blending '70s psychedelic rock and traditional folk with Indian classical music and Krautrock. Their debut EP arrived in 2013, followed by Forest of Lost Children (2014), House in the Tall Grass (2016), Masana Temples (2018), and their final album Kumoyo Island (2022).
In 2017 Kurosawa and Katsurada relocated to Amsterdam, also basing their label Guruguru Brain there to spotlight East Asian artists. The band announced an indefinite hiatus in January 2022 and played their last show that December in Tokyo, closing a decade-long run.

Kikagaku Moyo built a rare bridge between underground psych circles and mainstream indie-rock audiences, drawing comparisons to Japanese forebears like Acid Mothers Temple, Ghost, Far East Family Band, and Flower Travellin' Band. Their records balanced heavy, immersive jams with contemplative, folk-inflected passages, earning acclaim for meticulous songcraft paired with genuine experimentation. Beyond their own music, they used Guruguru Brain to champion other East Asian artists, expanding their influence well past their own discography before choosing to end the band deliberately at its peak.
