BIOGRAPHY
Sleaford Mods are an English post-punk duo formed in Nottingham in 2007, built around vocalist Jason Williamson (born 1970, Grantham, Lincolnshire) and instrumentalist Andrew Fearn (born 1971, Burton upon Trent), who joined in 2012. Williamson met Fearn after hearing him DJ minimal, grime-inspired tracks at a small Nottingham club, and the pair began working together on stripped-back, beat-driven music paired with Williamson's East Midlands delivery.
Their sound has been described as electronic, minimalist punk-hop rants for the working class, tackling unemployment, modern working life, celebrity culture and capitalism. A strong festival appearance led to a deal with Harbinger Sound, whose 2013 release Austerity Dogs raised their profile significantly. Later albums like English Tapas charted in the UK, and 2023's UK Grim continued their run, alongside a shift to recording at Abbey Road and Invada Studios for The Demise of Planet X.
