BIOGRAPHY
Way Dynamic is the recording project of multi-instrumentalist Dylan Young, who began it in Ballarat, Australia, as a catch-all for songs without a home. After moving to Melbourne, Young became an in-demand drummer for indie pop groups Snowy Band and Cool Sounds, and played behind Emma Russack and Darren Hanlon, while building Way Dynamic's own catalog.
The project's debut EP, What's It All for Now, arrived on Our Golden Friend in November 2018. Young wrote the songs for the full-length debut, So Familiar (2022), during the early COVID-19 pandemic, and has since released two more albums, including Massive Shoe on Spoilsport Records, working with longtime collaborator Stefan Blair (Good Morning) as producer.
WHY THEY'RE COOL
Way Dynamic filters 1970s soft rock, bossa nova, and Baroque pop through a singular, self-produced vision, with Young writing and playing nearly everything himself. The project has earned attention well beyond Australia: Waxahatchee's Katie Crutchfield praised the song Miffed It in her Substack and brought the act on tour, while John Mayer and Elton John have both discussed the music on their radio programs. Way Dynamic has also shared stages with MJ Lenderman & The Wind, Black Country New Road, and This Is Lorelei, positioning it as a trusted support act for touring international artists in Australia.
