BIOGRAPHY
Julia Jacklin was born on 30 August 1990 in the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales, Australia, and grew up in a family of school teachers. Inspired early on by Britney Spears, she took classical singing lessons at age ten before joining a high school covers band. She later studied social policy at Sydney University, working odd jobs, including in an essential oils factory, before pursuing music full-time.
Her debut album Don't Let the Kids Win (2016) won Best Independent Blues and Roots Album at the 2017 AIR Awards. Her acclaimed second album Crushing (2019) reached number 8 in Australia and was praised for its subdued, piano-driven blend of indie-pop and folk. She also fronts the garage-pop group Phantastic Ferniture, formed in 2014.
