BIOGRAPHY
John Parish, born 11 April 1959 in Yeovil, Somerset, is an English musician, songwriter, composer, and record producer. He began recording with new wave band Thieves Like Us in 1980 before forming Automatic Dlamini in 1983, a group he led for nine years whose rotating lineup included Rob Ellis and PJ Harvey.
Since starting as a producer in 1986, Parish has worked on more than 150 albums, notably for Eels, Sparklehorse, Tracy Chapman, and Giant Sand. He is best known for his decades-long collaboration with PJ Harvey, beginning in 1987, which produced two joint albums, Dance Hall at Louse Point (1996) and A Woman A Man Walked By (2009), plus extensive production and instrumental work on her records.

Parish is a rare figure who has shaped a major artist's sound from multiple angles: as co-producer, guitarist, percussionist, and keyboardist across PJ Harvey's To Bring You My Love and Is This Desire?, and as co-producer on her Mercury Prize-winning Let England Shake. A multi-instrumentalist who plays everything from accordion and xylophone to trombone and guitar, he has also released his own film music collection, Screenplay, and solo album Bird Dog Dante, while producing acclaimed work for Rokia Traoré, Jenny Hval, and Aldous Harding.
