BIOGRAPHY
Boney James, born James Oppenheim in 1961, grew up in New Rochelle, New York, starting on clarinet before switching to saxophone at ten. Influenced by Grover Washington Jr., he toured as a keyboardist and then saxophonist with Morris Day, later working as a session player with Randy Crawford, Sheena Easton, the Isley Brothers, and Bobby Caldwell before earning his nickname on the road with Crawford. He debuted as a bandleader with Trust in 1992, signed to Warner Bros., and built a catalog including Body Language, Pure, Futuresoul, Honestly, and Solid, the last reaching number ten on the pop charts. He has sold over four million albums with four RIAA Gold certifications.
