BIOGRAPHY

Parquet Courts formed in 2009 after Andrew Savage and Austin Brown met as students at the University of North Texas in Denton, bonding over shared records in a club called Knights of the Round Turntable. The band, rounded out by Sean Yeaton on bass and Max Savage on drums, relocated to New York City and released American Specialties on cassette in 2011. Their breakthrough came with Light Up Gold in 2012, followed by Sunbathing Animal (2014), Human Performance (2016), Wide Awake! (2018, produced by Danger Mouse), and Sympathy for Life (2021). In 2016 they also collaborated with composer Daniele Luppi and Karen O on the project Milano. The band played its most recent show in August 2022 and remains on hiatus rather than disbanded.

WHY THEY'RE COOL

Across seven albums, Parquet Courts built a reputation as indie rock's cerebral outsiders, fusing skittish punk energy with literate, savvy songwriting. Critics credited Wide Awake! as their most accessible and captivating work yet, the product of two years spent refining a sound already earning them status as darlings of the indie press. Constant touring and an intractable charm turned them into creatively restless stalwarts who kept refashioning rock's past on their own terms.
