BIOGRAPHY

Morgan Delt is a Los Angeles-based home-recording artist working in classic '60s psych and acid-casualty rock. He first surfaced in early 2013 with the limited cassette Psychic Death Hole, six songs that fused the demonic force of early Pink Floyd with the jagged, druggy jangle of Thee Oh Sees' rougher home recordings. A limited 7" single, Barbarian Kings b/w Black Tuna Gang, followed before his self-titled debut LP arrived on Trouble in Mind in early 2014. He subsequently signed to Sub Pop, and reviewers described his self-titled album as a meticulous re-creation of '67-era psychedelia, folk-rock and twisted sunshine pop filtered through home-studio murk. His 2016 Sub Pop follow-up, Phase Zero, was noted as smoother and less lo-fi, trading some of the earlier haze for a more focused, sunlit sound.

Morgan Delt earned attention for nailing vintage '67 psychedelia with unusual discipline rather than treating it as pastiche, layering fuzz, flowers and gauzy production into melodies critics called entrancing. Reviewers framed his self-titled debut as good enough to have been hailed as a classic had it appeared in its source era, while Phase Zero showed him smoothing the edges and letting more light into the mix without abandoning the baked, hazy character that defined his sound.
