BIOGRAPHY
YĪN YĪN is a Dutch band formed in Maastricht, born from a 2017 jam session between Yves Lennertz and Kees Berkers that began in a ballet school before Remy Scheren and Robbert Verwijlen joined. The group draws on psychedelia, funk, disco and East Asian sixties and seventies music, releasing singles from 2018 on Switzerland's Bongo Joe label ahead of their 2019 debut album, The Rabbit That Hunts Tigers.
Three more studio albums followed: The Age of Aquarius (2022), Mount Matsu (2024) and Yatta! (2026). Lennertz left in 2023 and was replaced by Erik Bandt; the current lineup is Kees Berkers (drums), Jerôme Scheren (keyboards), Remy Scheren (bass) and Erik Bandt (guitar).
WHY THEY'RE COOL
YĪN YĪN have built a distinctive sound by fusing psychedelic funk and disco with East Asian influences, earning praise for some of the most far-out, mind-bending music since the 1960s heyday of psychedelia. Their debut, The Rabbit That Hunts Tigers, drew solid critical marks, while their 2026 album Yatta! was hailed by Far Out Magazine for reaffirming the band's 'dedication to originality and psychedelic innovation,' scoring even higher with critics. Nearly seven years into their career, they continue expanding their sonic palette, crafting records described as kaleidoscopic global trips that still command listeners to move.
