BIOGRAPHY
The Beach Boys formed in Los Angeles with original members Brian Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Carl Wilson, Mike Love, and Al Jardine. Their 1961 single "Surfin'" gave them a regional hit, and after signing with Capitol Records, "Surfin' Safari" (1962) launched a five-year run of 16 consecutive US top 40 hits.
By the mid-1960s the group moved from surf-rock toward an orchestral, studio-focused sound, with Brian Wilson stepping back from touring as Bruce Johnston joined. Their 1966 album Pet Sounds and the single "Good Vibrations" became landmark recordings. The band sold over 100 million records, charted 36 songs in the US Top 40 (the most of any American rock band), and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

Pet Sounds stands as one of the most influential albums in popular music, reportedly reshaping the Beatles' approach to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band; producer George Martin stated that without Pet Sounds, Sgt. Pepper never would have happened.
