BIOGRAPHY
Greg Mendez grew up in suburban New Jersey before moving to Philadelphia in 2006, where he played house shows on the hardcore and punk scene while recording intimate songs at home using only his laptop's built-in microphone. His debut full-length, Phone Records, arrived in 2016, followed by the EP Shrug in 2017 and the album & Gum Trash in 2018.
WHY THEY'RE COOL
Mendez's self-titled 2023 album was named one of Pitchfork's '10 New Albums You Should Listen To Now,' a rare mainstream nod for songs built from laptop-mic demos and house-show roots in Philadelphia's hardcore and punk scene. His willingness to swing between buoyant full-band arrangements and sparse, atmospheric balladry, as heard on Beauty Land's 'Gentle Love,' makes him a singular, tender voice in DIY indie rock.
