BIOGRAPHY

Grumpy is led by Heaven Schmitt, who studied songwriting at Belmont University and was originally based in Nashville before relocating to Brooklyn. What began as a solo project expanded into a full band featuring Austin Arnold, Ellie Long, Anya Good, Diego Clare, and Lane Rodges. On Bayonet Records, Grumpy announced its debut album, Unfindable Ring, arriving October 23, alongside a new single and video for "OBL." Across the record the band moves between synth textures, honkytonk strings, jazz percussion, and shoegaze distortion, pulling from country, pop, and ambient reference points. Schmitt was also identified as the duet partner on a recent Zach Bryan track, drawing further attention to the group.

WHY THEY'RE COOL

Grumpy's debut album Unfindable Ring pulls together hyperpop-adjacent production, honkytonk strings, jazz percussion, and shoegaze distortion into a sound that refuses to settle into one lane, a wide range for a band this early into a full-length. Heaven Schmitt's songwriting roots in Nashville and Belmont University give the project a country-informed backbone even as it stretches into synth-heavy, heavily processed territory. The band's profile grew further after Schmitt was identified as the duet partner on a recent Zach Bryan track, pulling Grumpy's genre-blurring approach into a wider spotlight.
