BIOGRAPHY
Ghostwoman is the recording project of Evan Uschenko, who grew up in Three Hills, Alberta, and toured in Michael Rault's band alongside King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. The project began in a remote Canadian shack that burned down after the recordings were finished, and its self-titled debut arrived via Full Time Hobby in 2022, followed by Anne, If in 2023. With Belgian drummer Ille Van Dessel joining as co-writer, the band expanded into Hindsight Is 50/50 (2023), recorded live over three days in a studio in Brittany, and Welcome to the Civilized World (2025).
WHY THEY'RE COOL
Ghostwoman mixes psych, country, krautrock, blues and Americana, drawing on The Byrds, Love and Kyuss while later records push toward denser, reverb-soaked territory. One review praised the band's early production as having a 'languid but taut feel like sandpaper and honey,' while the heavier, live-tracked Hindsight Is 50/50 has been compared to Black Angels or Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. The evolution from a solo bedroom project to a full band with co-writer/drummer Ille Van Dessel has given the music a sharper, more collaborative direction across four albums in a few short years.
