BIOGRAPHY
Here We Go Magic formed in Brooklyn in late 2008 around Luke Temple, Michael Bloch, and Peter Hale. Temple's self-titled debut arrived on Western Vinyl in February 2009, drawing notice for its hazy electronic textures and looping, ambient-leaning songcraft. The band expanded to a five-piece and signed to Secretly Canadian later that year.
Their single "Collector" earned Pitchfork's Best New Music tag in 2010, and the group toured widely, playing SXSW, Primavera Sound, Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, and other major festivals, with Thom Yorke naming them his favorite Glastonbury act. That performance led Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich to produce their fourth album, A Different Ship. After a hiatus, Temple and Bloch regrouped to record Be Small.

Here We Go Magic built a reputation on meticulous, unshowy craft: loops and patterns that were played rather than programmed, praised by the New York Times for their discreet virtuosity and by BBC Music for being sharp and disciplined even before they bloomed into expansive live jams. The band's rise from a lone Western Vinyl LP to a Secretly Canadian signing, Pitchfork's Best New Music honor, and festival slots at Glastonbury and Bonnaroo culminated in producer Nigel Godrich seeking them out after Thom Yorke singled them out as his favorite act at Glastonbury, a rare, organic endorsement from one of rock's most exacting ears.
