BIOGRAPHY
Paul Gerard Buchanan is a Scottish singer-songwriter born 16 April 1956 in Edinburgh. He studied literature and medieval history at the University of Glasgow before co-founding the Blue Nile in 1980 with fellow graduates Robert Bell and Paul Joseph Moore. The band, championed early by Rickie Lee Jones and Peter Gabriel, earned critical acclaim for its lush, atmospheric albums A Walk Across the Rooftops and Hats, with Buchanan's voice often compared to Bryan Ferry and Scott Walker.
After the Blue Nile's fourth album High in 2004 (with no official confirmation the band ever disbanded), Buchanan released his solo debut, Mid Air, in 2012 on Newsroom Records. The record topped the Scottish Albums Chart and reached number 14 on the UK Albums Chart, earning widespread critical praise.
