BIOGRAPHY
Cormac O'Halloran, who records as Kormac, is a Dublin-based composer, DJ, and producer known for blending organic instrumentation with expansive electronica. He studied Music and Media Technology at Trinity College Dublin, graduating in 2004, and started out as a hip-hop scratch DJ and MPC beat-maker before joining Irish experimental band 8Ball as a turntablist and multi-instrumentalist. His solo work spans the 2007 Scratch Marchin' EP, the 2010 debut LP Word Play, the collaborative 2014 album Doorsteps (its single "Wake Up" was nominated for a Meteor Choice Music Prize), and 2022's Equivalent Exchange, recorded with the Irish Chamber Orchestra after an extended break. He also leads Kormac's Big Band, a live ensemble combining brass, strings, drums, electronics, bass, and guitar, and has performed at festivals such as Glastonbury, Bestival, Electric Picnic, and Sonar alongside artists including Portishead and Snarky Puppy. Since 2019 he has composed for television and film, including BBC One's This Town.
