BIOGRAPHY
Ian Folke Svenonius is an American musician, author and filmmaker who emerged from the 1980s Washington, D.C. punk scene. His first band, Nation of Ulysses, released its influential debut 13-Point Program to Destroy America in 1991 on Dischord Records before splitting in 1992. He went on to front the Make-Up, whose blend of garage rock, soul and liberation theology he dubbed "Gospel Yeh-Yeh," releasing four studio albums across five years.
After the Make-Up disbanded in 2001, Svenonius formed Weird War and later Chain and the Gang, issuing records including Down With Liberty... Up With Chains! and In Cool Blood on K Records. He has also hosted the interview series Soft Focus, published multiple books including The Psychic Soviet and Censorship Now!!, and continues to record as Escape-ism.
